Having an intense interest in science and its practical applications from a very young age, the launch of Sputnik helped to bring Kernel into a notion of a career in a technical field.\u00a0 The Space Race was a very real issue in education as he entered Junior and then Senior High School.<\/p>\n

Beginning as a Bio-Physics major at Pennsylvania State University, the events at Kent State in the Spring of 1970 would convince Kernel that the time was not right for him to work in a scientific profession.<\/p>\n

However, after spending some time in ‘the real world’ after graduating with a degree in English Literature, Kernel’s focus once again turned toward technical challenges as the Arab Oil Embargo made America painfully aware of it’s dependence on foreign sources of energy and the Geo-political consequences of that dependence.<\/p>\n

So, shortly after the Embargo, Kernel began establishing a consulting business:\u00a0 Energy Efficiency Planning.<\/a><\/p>\n
